PERSONAL SERVICE
Southsea Ear Clinic is run by Becky Guarracino, a highly experienced, qualified audiologist of 12+ years. Becky understands the needs of her patients and how to best serve them to overcome their issues and get the best, safest result.
ABOUT SOUTHSEA EAR CLINIC
The Southsea ear clinic is owned and run by Becky Guarracino, BSc Hons audiology.
The Southsea Ear Clinic was established in 2021 in response to the ever-increasing difficulty of finding safe, effective and accessible ear wax removal.
Since then the clinic has expanded in response to the needs of it’s patients, to provide clinic grade hearing tests and high quality hearing aids.
As an audiologist in the NHS, Becky was seeing patients on a daily basis with wax problems affecting their hearing, especially those with hearing aids. And with GP surgeries not offering ear syringing routinely anymore it was a huge problem for many people.
Becky decided to use her experience to set up Southsea Ear Clinic in order to help people with this frustrating issue.
YOUR AUDIOLOGIST
My name is Becky and I am an audiologist and mum to 2 children. I started studying for a degree in Audiology at The University of Southampton in 2005 and qualified in 2009. I lived in Southsea but worked at Worthing Hospital for many years, but after coming back from maternity leave in 2020 after having my little boy, I was starting to find the journey too much. I felt I needed to work closer to home so decided to make the move to Queen Alexandra hospital Portsmouth where I have been working since November 2020. Over the years I have worked in all aspects of audiology in the NHS. I have also worked part-time for another private microsuction company. My areas of special interest are: hearing assessment and hearing aid fitting, microsuction, balance/dizzy patients and complex audiological cases

OUR HEARING ASSESSMENTS, HEARING AIDS, MICROSUCTION & AUDIOLOGY SERVICES
HEARING ASSESSMENTS
At Southsea Ear Clinic, we believe that your hearing health is integral to your overall well-being and quality of life. That’s why we’re thrilled to expand our services to include comprehensive hearing assessments.
Whether you’re experiencing changes in your hearing or simply maintaining your ear health, a hearing assessment is the first step to hearing more clearly again.
We offer 2 types of hearing assessment:
Hearing Test
(30 mins) £45
Full Hearing Assessment
(90 mins) £75 – this will be refunded against the purchase of hearing aids
What to expect:
- Introduction and Discussion: You will meet with your audiologist who will explain the hearing test process. You will be asked about your ear health history and any specific hearing concerns you may have.
- Video Otoscopy:The audiologist will use a video otoscope to examine the outer ear, ear canal, and eardrum to check for any visible issues, such as earwax blockages or abnormalities. You will also be able to view this on the iPad if you would like.
- Pure-Tone Audiometry: You will be seated in a quiet room, and you will wear headphones connected to an audiometer. The audiologist will present a series of tones at different frequencies and volumes, and you will be asked to indicate when you hear each tone by pressing a button.
- Test Results and Discussion: Once the test is completed, the audiologist will review the results with you. They will explain the audiogram, which is a graphical representation of your hearing sensitivity, and discuss any hearing loss or concerns identified. They may also address potential causes, treatment options, and recommendations for further evaluation or intervention if necessary.
In addition, with the Full Hearing Assessment you will receive:
- Speech Audiometry: Occasionally, in addition to pure-tone testing, the audiologist may perform speech audiometry. This involves listening to and repeating words or sentences at different volumes to assess your ability to understand speech.
- Additional Tests (if needed): Depending on your specific needs and concerns, the audiologist may conduct additional tests to evaluate other aspects of your hearing, such as:
– Tympanometry: Assessing the movement and function of the eardrum and middle ear.
– Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) Test: Measuring the sounds produced by the inner ear in response to sound stimuli.
If you decide to proceed with hearing aids, your audiologist will provide expert guidance on selecting the most suitable ones for your specific hearing loss, lifestyle and desired type. You can choose from a range of colours and styles allowing you to opt for a discreet blend-in hearing aid or a more vibrant statement style and colour. Rest assured, there is an abundance of options available to suit you.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS SAY
I would thoroughly recommend Becky at Southsea Ear Clinic for her professional service from start to finish, Becky patiently explained my proposed treatment at every stage and also explained aftercare/preventative tips for my ear problem. Five star treatment.
– Anita Stepnitz, Patient
Much better than Syringe , the procedure was explained beforehand and as all my questions were answered , much better than my experience at the Drs and having what felt like a fireman’s hose in my ears … will certainly be using again.
– James Evans, Patient
I met this lovely lady today, Becky, when she gave extra special care to my 97 year old client. My client said her ears feel so much clearer. So much safer and more comfortable than the old style syringing. Would recommend to anyone.
